This 15 hour Course will immerse you in the potent art of Somatic Meditation. Almost entirely experiential it will allow you to develop deep meditative pathways that you can develop into your daily life. You will also receive notes to support you in your ongoing practice.
All meditation takes place within the body. Settling into the presence of your body allows its nature, power and significance to be experienced. This invitation is extended through feeling clearly physical sensations. No special strategy, skill, experience or knowledge is required.
When you establish a meditative posture the most obvious sensations are those that reveal the structure of your body, as the relationships between its parts, and their supports. As your body settles into a comfortable stability it becomes structurally silent. Then the most consistently obvious sensations are those that reveal the presence of your breathing. This is why both Patanjali and the Buddha focus on the breath as the basic meditative seed, or lens through which to focus attention. The foundation of somatic meditation is how you relate to sensations. By cultivating intimacy with sensation you become easily able to enjoy more subtle intimacies with mind, awareness and Consciousness. You do this by feeling sensations as directly and clearly as possible. Nothing else is required.
Your ability to feel sensations deeply and clearly is an expression of the depth of your interest. When interest is deep enough attention is taken fully by the presence of sensations. At first this includes the elaborations of mind recognising implications of sensations. As your need to know diminishes, your attention will be taken, by your interest, into the deeper subtleties of sensation. The recognitions of mind become less and less particularised and individuated. As mind becomes more quiet, more present it lets go of its need to know into its ability to enjoy. While this enjoyment may initially be more somatic, eventually it becomes more spiritual as you slip through the heart of sensation into Impersonal Awareness of Being.
The heart of sensation is Consciousness as awareness meeting Consciousness as the body: or Consciousness meeting itself. Mind has become so relaxed that the overt perceptibility of particular sensations has been replaced by the subtle perceptibility of Consciousness as the basis of all sensations. This descent into the delicious luminosity of Consciousness can happen very rapidly. Although this is usually only the case once you have become familiar with it. Enjoying the pleasure nature of your body, and the pleasure nature of awareness is both calming and nourishing. It encourages mind to let go of its need to control into the wisdom and power of Consciousness.
The 15 hour course unfolds by way of 6 2.5 hour sessions. Each session includes three or four sittings, punctuated by relevant and insightful talks that will support you in your practice. Each sitting has its own unique verbal instruction, talking you into silence through different experiential lenses. The 2.5 hour sessions can be done as a single whole, or by sequential parts. There is a progressive sequentiality from the first sitting to the last, in the course as a whole and each individual session also. You are free to repeat any session, or sitting, before continuing on.
On our receiving confirmation of your purchase we will send you a link and access password that will make the recordings available to you for 60 days after the purchase date. Notes on the origins, process and practice of meditation and mindfulness will download on purchase.
