- HEART OF YOGA December 24 - May 25
Yoga is the embodiment of wholeness. Yoga practice must establish pathways of wholeness from the body to Consciousness. Then the power and wisdom of Consciousness can flow along these pathways into your daily life (Ishvarapranidanah). These pathways are established by movement and deepened in stillness. They must activate and integrate all the muscles of the body: motor, structural and respiratory.
For the heart of yoga to open fully your body must be free from tension and restriction. This does not require extremes of flexibility or strength. It only requires mobilisation of each facet of every joint. This takes training. A training in sensitivity to sensation. This Heart of Yoga training will show you how to use movement to sensitise all of your joints, and stillness to integrate all of your muscles. The Teaching Skills Module will show you how to do this for others. The Pranayama modules will provide you with the tools to activate and strengthen the core muscles of your spine, abdomen and throat so that the Heart of Yoga opens effortlessly within the flow of your practice.
No matter what style of yoga you practice, what shapes or sequences you use, this training will give you the tools to refine and deepen your practice so that it becomes the irrevocable fulcrum of a life lived as a gift of peace to the world.

More about the training:
Because of the binary nature of the peripheral nervous system recalibrating your muscles refines your perception. As you become able to perceive the subtle within the obvious, wholeness within separateness, the obvious loses its seductive power and separateness loses its false authority. You become a conscious embodiment of wholeness, living a life of peace, joy and love as a gift to the world given freely.
Yoga practice is more than sequencing shapes. Pathways of wholeness depend upon what you are doing within those shapes. Each part of your body must be supporting every part of your body, from your hands and feet to your core. Engaging all your motor muscles, while structural and respiratory muscles respond spontaneously, allows you to refine not only the relationships between all the parts of your body (asana) but also to refine the effort (prayatna saithilya) each muscle is making. Then you experience the bandhas in the whole of your body: each part supporting and embodying wholeness as deep stillness within action (sthiram sukham).
The core bandhas (mulabandha, uddyanabandha and jalandharabandha) being supported by the peripheral bandhas (hastabandha, padabandha) allows the core of your body (sushumna) to open into the presence and power of Consciousness. This is the heart of yoga within which its richest fruits ripen.

Taught by Godfrey Devereux
Godfrey is one of the initiators of the Yoga Renaissance that began in the 1990s. The yoga program he created at the Life Centre in London, and his ground breaking book ‘Dynamic Yoga’ steered yoga from the cultural margins towards the irresistible phenomenon it is today. Author of many more books, not only on yoga, his influence within and beyond the world of yoga is incalculable.
|
His potent and accessible methodologies of somatic transformation, including 'The Dynamic Yoga Training Method', ’Slow Tantra’, ’Somatic Meditation’, and 'Somatic Resilience Training', have enriched the lives of thousands of practitioners and hundreds of teachers. As a master teacher his effectiveness depends directly on his ability to share his embodied experience of body, mind and Consciousness.
& Olivia Crooks (on modules 2 & 3)
Olivia began working with Godfrey Devereux in 2003, after completing a diploma in Yoga in Sydney, Australia. She then apprenticed him for the following 10 years. Eventually assisting and co-teaching his teacher trainings. She has been integral to the development of the methodologies in which he teaches.
For the last 14 years she has been running workshops, courses, intensives and retreats (specifically for women). Teaching somatic movement, meditation and pranayama. She continues to teach with Godfrey each year on their annual winter Somatic Meditation Retreat and summer Radical Ecology Retreat. |
Olivia is striking in her inability to be inauthentic, or lean on any external authority. From her deep trust in life she extends, in her presence, words, actions and teaching, an almost irresistible invitation to say 'yes' more deeply to life just as it is.
