MINDFULNESS & MEDITATION: PERSONAL TRAINING
If you are looking for practical and effective guidance in Mindfulness or Meditation, or are simply curious about their possibilities, this is the course for you. Godfrey has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for 50 years, teaching for forty. His dedication to his practice, and his need to get to the very bottom of his experience, have left him with a lucid and pragmatic understanding of the relationship between thinking, feeling, sensing and knowing. This allows him to clearly guide others through the subtleties of intention, effort, awareness and Consciousness into the Peace that you most deeply are.
Mindfulness is the experience of being present to what is actually happening. Meditation is a practice that invites a deep intimacy with what is actually happening. Nevertheless Mindfulness can be practiced and meditation can become an ongoing state of mind available in daily life, as can Mindfulness. This Training will clarify, in practice and in theory, the relationships between Mindfulness, Meditation and the Meditative mind.
Mindfulness can be a practice, or a state of mind. For it to become a state of mind available in everyday living, it needs to be established through the practice of meditation. Meditation is most fruitful when it establishes intimacy with your own body, mind and awareness. This takes place as an infolding of awareness upon itself. This infolding flows from the objects generated by the mind into the inclusive luminosity of Consciousness, by way of the stability of the body.
Regular practice of meditation releases awareness from its conditioned constraints into the power and wisdom of Natural Intelligence. This has a direct impact on everyday experience by way of the dissolution of learned pathways of neurotic perception, reaction and behaviour. As neurotic habits dissolve intelligence functions in everyday life with a directness and immediacy in and as the meditative mind, the surface of which is attentiveness to what is actually happening, or mindfulness.
It is only sustained meditation practice that undermines the habits that obstruct mindfulness. Without meditation, mindfulness is reduced to superficial attentiveness applied in the moment. Dedicated meditation practice establishes the meditative mind as the default state, and mindfulness as its natural, spontaneous expression.
This hybrid 86 hour training is open to anyone wishing to become more deeply at home in their life as it is. Its practice based explorations will include Buddhist approaches to mindfulness and meditation, an analysis of Patanjali's presentation of meditation in the Yoga Sutras, and subtleties of Zen and Dzogchen. This exploration, and the practices of mindfulness and meditation will be set within an understanding based on the functional relationship between thinking, feeling, perception, awareness and Consciousness. This functional psychology of meditation will be free from jargon while clarifying the meaning and significance of esoteric terminology associated with the meditative mind, such as satori, samadhi, nirvana, enlightenment and awakening.
This training will be primarily experiential in the form of sitting and lying meditation and mindfulness practices. You will also taste the placation of the principles of mindfulness in everyday activities, such as walking, stretching and listening to others and to Nature.
Each module is dedicated to practice set within a different context. The final module will take place in person in Istanbul, but will also be available online for those unable to attend in person. You will be provided with a set of comprehensive notes to guide your own practice.
